In Nepal, pro-monarchy protests turn violent; 2 dead, curfew imposed in Kathmandu

The protesters, demanding the restoration of monarchy and Nepal’s status as a Hindu kingdom, pelted stones, set fire to vehicles, looted shops, and attacked the office of a political party and and a media house building, PTI reported.

The clashes began at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday and several shops were set on fire and vehicles were damaged.

In Srinagar, shops and government installations remained closed as a precautionary measure, while roads wore a deserted look as most people remained indoors. The armed security personnel patrolled residential and market areas to prevent any untoward incident.
