This additional instalment of DA over the existing rate of 50% of the Basic Pay/Pension is to compensate against price rise, the government said in a statement.

The dearness allowance for employees and pensioners is estimated on the basis of the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers, which is released by the Labour Bureau every month.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday hiked the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners by 4 percentage points, said I&B Minister Anurag Thakur.
