Dilip Saikia is a prominent political leader from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam. He is the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Lok Sabha member for the Mangaldoi constituency. He was born on September 1, 1973, in Purna Kamdev, Nalbari, Assam.
He showcased his political interest since his student days, as he was involved in student politics and held leadership roles in the student branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He advanced in the Assamese BJP ranks thanks to his commitment to the party. Before joining the BJP in 2015, he was the state secretary and state organizing secretary of the ABVP in Assam.
He entered the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mangaldoi, Assam, demonstrating his elevated political aspirations. After coming out on top against a strong opponent, he won the state's key seat for the BJP. Both Saikia's career and the BJP's rising influence in Assam witnessed tremendous change with this victory.
His political career has not been without controversy. Some segments of Assamese society have taken issue with his affiliation with the BJP, especially about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Some people believe that his position on these matters is counterproductive to the interests of the Assamese people.
