Dimple Yadav

Dimple won the Mainpuri parliamentary byelection in December 2022, defeating Raghuraj Singh Shakya of the BJP by a margin of 2,88,461 votes. The seat was held by party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and it got vacated after his death on October 10, 2022.

Dimple Yadav has lost as many elections as she has won (twice each). After the 2019 loss from Kannuaj parliamentary seat, she was virtually retired from political life, till the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav brought her back into the fray.

Dimple Yadav, who was a member of the 15th and the 16th Lok Sabha, had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Kannauj constituency in Uttar Pradesh but lost to BJP’s Subrat Pathak. In the 16th Lok Sabha, she served as a member of the Standing Committee on Water Resources and as a member of the Consultative Committee, the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Dimple once again contested the Mainpuri Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and was able to register a comfortable win to continue her tenure in the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

Dimple was born on 15 January 1978 in Pune. Her father was in the army, due to his transfer Dimple studied in many states. She and Akhilesh Yadav got married in 1999. Although initially Akhilesh's father Mulayam was not ready for this marriage, but later he agreed and thus the love marriage took place. The couple has 3 children.
