Though India’s sugar production this year (till March end) fell by two percent compared to last year,Punjab has recorded a 9 percent increase in sugar production this year as compared to 2011-2012.

It’s going to be a sweet season for Punjab as the sugar production in the state is set to rise by nearly 20 per cent as compared to last year.

After the announcement of pre-sowing State Agreed Price of sugarcane for 2011-12,15 per cent — around 12,000 to 15,000 hectares — more area is expected to be cultivated in the state.
