Manohar Parrikar

Manohar Parrikar, four-time Chief Minister of Goa and former defence minister of India, died on March 17, 2019. Manohar Parrikar took charge on March 14, 2017 for the fourth time. He earlier held the Defence Ministry portfolio in the Narendra Modi government and is a member of the Rajya Sabha from Lucknow. Parrikar, who resides in Mapusa, is a 1978 graduate of IIT Bombay in metallurgical engineering. He has overseen the rise of BJP in Goa, from the days when the party only had four seats in the assembly in 1994 till date when they have been a significant political player in the state for the last decade. He first became Goa Chief Minister in 2000.
