ABOUT Mithun Chakraborty

Mithun Chakraborty has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. A superstar in the 80s and 90s, the veteran actor first gained recognition after winning the National Film Award for Best Actor for his debut film Mrigayaa (1976). He skyrocketed to fame with his iconic dance steps in the 1982 hit Disco Dancer, establishing himself as a bankable star with films like Aakhri Ghulam, Prem Pratigyaa, Ilaaka, Daata, and Mujrim. His film Disco Dancer made him a prominent name in Russia. Mithun also earned National Film Awards for his performances in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1996). His versatility allowed him to excel across various genres, including comedy and action. The actor starred in several comedy dramas including Golmal, and Oh My God in supporting roles. Beyond the silver screen, Mithun became a familiar face on popular television shows such as Grandmaster, Bigg Boss Bangla, Dadagiri, and Dance India Dance. An active politician, he was part of the Trinamool Congress before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2021. Born on June 16, 1950, to Basanata Kumar Chakraborty and Shanti Rani, Mithun, now 74, had a tumultuous start as a sympathiser to Naxal philosophy before returning to his family after the tragic electrocution of his only brother in a freak accident. Mithun Chakraborty married actress Helena Luke in 1979, but the couple divorced just four months later. Later that same year, he married actress Yogeeta Bali. Together, they have four children: Mimoh, Ushmey, Namashi, and an adopted daughter, Dishani Chakraborty. In February, 2024, the actor was hospitalised for chest pain but was discharged two days later.
