Muhammad Sadiq, a name synonymous with Punjabi music, cinema, and politics, is a living legend. Born in 1939 in Kup Kalan, Sangrur district, British Punjab, Sadiq’s life is a saga of talent, perseverance, and success.
His musical journey began with his uncle, a folk singer. His collaborations with eminent Punjabi singers like Surinder Kaur, Narinder Biba, Rajinder Rajan, Swaran Lata, and others have enriched the Punjabi music scene. His duets with Ranjit Kaur are mainly celebrated, making them a beloved singing duo in the 1970s and '80s.
His songs, penned by the esteemed Punjabi folk lyricist Babu Singh Maan, have etched a permanent place in the hearts of Punjabi music lovers. His duet “Nigah Maarda Aayin Ve Mera Laung Gawacha” with Bibi Surinder Kaur in the late 60s is a timeless classic.
His artistic prowess extends beyond singing. He has showcased his acting skills in numerous Punjabi films such as Putt Jattan De, Guddo, Patola, Jatt Jeona Morh, and Tabaahi. His performances have garnered acclaim, further solidifying his stature in the Punjabi entertainment industry.
His career took a political turn when he served as a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Representing the Bhadaur constituency for the Congress party, Sadiq faced and overcame legal challenges. He emerged victorious in the 2019 General Elections from the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency and is currently serving as a Member of Parliament.
