Parshottam Rupala biography

Parshottam Rupala, 69, belongs to the Kadva faction of the Patidar community and is believed to be an Amit Shah loyalist who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2016. Belonging to the Kadva faction of the Patidar community, Rupala was part of Modi’s campaign team in Varanasi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Rupala is considered a powerful Patidar leader who can infuse a sense of confidence into BJP workers at the state level. The Patidar agitation and the embarrassing protests against BJP leaders across the state during many public functions have hit the morale of party workers.

Rupala was the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in the PM Modi-II government. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat from 2016 to 2024. He was a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Amreli and previously served as a minister in the Government of Gujarat.

Rupala was born on 1 October 1954 and received his B.Sc. from Saurashtra University and Gujarat University in 1976–1977. Before entering politics, he served as the school principal of Rupala School in Hamapur Middle School from 1977 to 1983. He was the Chief Officer of Amreli Municipality from November 1983 to March 1987.
