Netflix's The Witcher, a fantasy drama series adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, follows the intertwined destinies of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Cirilla. Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan lead the cast. The initial eight-episode season, released in December 2019, drew upon short story collections preceding the main saga. Season two, based on Blood of Elves, premiered in December 2021, also comprising eight episodes. A third season, similarly structured, concluded its run in July 2023. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of Geralt for the fourth season, following Netflix's renewal. A fifth and final season has also been confirmed. Expanding the Witcher universe, Netflix produced an animated origin film, Nightmare of the Wolf, in 2021, and a prequel miniseries, Blood Origin, in 2022. A second film, Sirens of the Deep, was released in February 2025. The series' success has ensured its continuation, despite a change in its lead actor.
