Schools have been asked to designate nodal officers to ensure that directions are implemented on the ground.
The health department on Friday issued a fresh advisory to the education department and Panjab University asking them to allow students wear full sleeve clothes in the wake of dengue cases in the city. On Friday, the health officials said three fresh cases were reported in the city, taking the total number of cases in the city to 947.
According to the advisory, the health department has asked the schools to designate nodal officers to ensure that the directions are implemented on the ground. The department has also advised that the circular be handed over to each and every student. “As you are aware that dengue is more prevalent in September, October, November, this year too there is a surge in the dengue cases in Chandigarh, which according to the health experts is likely to peak in October/November; therefore it is mandatory that students in the schools arrive fully covered. They are advised to wear full sleeves short/Kurta, trouser/Salwar..,” reads the advisory issued by the health department.
It also said that all the heads of government, government- aided and unaided recognised schools are advised to take necessary preventive measures for dengue. It further said that students be allowed to wear full sleeve clothes to avoid mosquito bite. “All the students should be allowed to wear full sleeve clothes to cover their body to save themselves from mosquito bites in case they do not have uniforms which covers their body completely,” the advisory has said.
It further said, “The nodal teacher of school health scheme in case of government schools and any other be designated as nodal teachers for ensuring that the advisory is complied with true spirit under their guidance in all schools in the Chandigarh administration.” The city has recorded more than 947 cases so far this year. In 2016, 1,254 dengue cases were reported while 966 cases were reported in 2015, the health officials said.
According to the health officials, not only Chandigarh and Panchkula, Mohali too is reporting a large number of dengue cases. Panchkula has already reported two dengue deaths so far. The number of cases in Chandigarh has started to decline though. Earlier, more than 20 cases were reported on a daily basis. The number has, however, started to decline from last week, the health officials said.
