A 10-year-old boy was rescued from a house in the Vastrapur area of the city where he was forced to work as a domestic help for the last six months,officials at the regional office of Labour Commissioner here said today.
The boy,rescued by Labour officials early this week,belongs to Deval village in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan.
Labour department officials said the boy was working at the house of one Vandana Sharma,who has been booked under Section 374 of the IPC and Section 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act by the Anandnagar police.
Based on a tip-off,we,along with Anandnagar police and representatives of Childline (an NGO working for children),raided the house and rescued the child on Wednesday, a top Labour department official told The Indian Express.
The boy was later sent to a government-run childrens observation home in the Khanpur area.
While Childrens Home superintendent Mayank Trivedi said that nobody from the childs family had approached them to claim his custody,Ramesh Srivastava,general secretary of Mazoor Adhikar Manch,said the parents of the child had approached Daskhin Rajasthan Mazdoor Union who in turn informed the Labour Commissioner of Gujarat.
