With 31 more cases, including nine new cases of Jaundice in Saraspur area, the water-borne disease refuses to taper out in the city which since November 13 has reported 328 cases which include a total of 190 cases in Saraspur in this period, AMC health department has admitted this on record. Of nine cases reported at Shardaben Hospital, four patient have been admitted for treatment and four were discharged as outdoor patients, said in-charge Medical Officer (Health) Dr Bhavin Solanki. He said that besides four indoor patients, 12 others were already undergoing treatment. In wards other than Saraspur, Jamalpur reported highest number of 20 cases since November 13 followed by 18 cases in Danilimda, 16 each in Gomtipur, Bapunagar and Rajpur wards, 14 in Vatva, 12 cases in Behrampura ward suggesting the disease may spread further in the eastern part of the city. Not to be left far behind, 492 cases of diarrhoea, 161 cases of typhoid, 243 cases of simple malaria, 159 case of p falciparum malaria, one case of chikungunea one case of cholera, and taking the cake 302 cases of dengue have been reported since November 13, said Dr Solanki. In the case of dengue, the civic health department has confirmed that in the current month 302 cases of dengue have come to light, out of which 146 patients are under treatment in private hospitals and 156 in municipal hospitals. Dr Solanki claimed that there has been a respite in past couple of days in cases of dengue coming up in the city. The concentration of dengue has been seen in Chandkheda, Gota, Behrampura, Girdharnagar, Vasna, Kali, Kubernagar, Amraiwadi, Lambha, Thakkarbapanagar, and Meghaninagar wards. He said the AMC was checking the sites in these wards and was going to seal construction sites for mosquito growth. Meanwhile, senior Congress councillor Surendra Baxi has said that despite statistical jugglery there was a consistent increase in case of diarrhoea, jaundice and dengue from in the current year and in 2013. Accordantly, diarrhoea cases showed an increasing trend. "Understanding seriousness of the problem, the State Chief Secretary himself had to rush to the area beside the municipal commissioner visiting the ward twice and cancelling her visit abroad, elected wing leaders choosing to go to China is regrettable", Baxi said. The ruling party elected leadership stands exposed by not paying due attention to plight of victims, he alleged. He lambasted mayor Minaxiben Patel for justifying he China visit, howsoever preplanned, that the trip was necessary tor sake of the city's development.
