The crime branch has filed a case of cheating and forgery against 55 people based on a colonel’s complaint that some aspirants from other states submitted forged domicile certificates for selection in the Army.
In his complaint filed on Tuesday, Colonel Rohit Pant, posted in Jamnagar, alleged that 49 youth submitted documents showing they were residents of Kutch district for taking part in a recruitment camp at Rajkot in February this year.

However, these aspirants were residents of other states and that their domicile certificates were found to be forged during submission.
“The colonel has alleged that 49 youths who cleared physical test of the recruitment camp submitted certificates of being domicile of Gujarat. But, they are not domicile of Gujarat. Majority of them are from Haryana. The remaining six persons helped them forge documents,” Harshad Patel, deputy commissioner of police (crime), told The Indian Express on Wednesday. The recruitment camp, held at DH Arts College ground, was meant for youths of Gujarat only.
Crime Branch inspector Manish Nakum, who is investigating the case, said he was yet to see papers related to the case.
