(Representational/File) In a joint operation with the police, the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) in Gujarat seized 61,690 kilograms of adulterated stock of spices from Nadiad, stated an official statement from FDCA, Tuesday.
The FDCA raided the premises of M/s Dev Spices in Nadiad, M/s Sadguru Sales Corporation at Kamla village and M/s D Dev Spices Pvt Ltd at Nani Silod. During the raids adulterated masalas chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and pickle masala were seized.
The team also found Oleoresin, Starch powder and grounded paper at the site which was allegedly being used to adulterate the spices.
About 12 samples were collected from these locations and sent to the laboratory for testing, while the remaining stock of 61,690 kilograms of spices, worth Rs 73.27 lakh were seized.
According to FDCA, the firms used to source the Oleoresin from Kerala and Sadguru Sales Corporation used to sell the adulterated spices in the market through various brand names including Extra Hot Tej Mirchi Powder, Appu Brand Mirchi Powder, Tiger Brand Teekhalal Mirchi Powder, Teekhalal, Jyoti Tej Mirchi Powder.
The official release also stated that Sadguru was fined Rs 6.75 lakh for adulteration in the past.
