The Gujarat High Court (HC) has granted bail to one Magan Rajpara (67) from Bhavnagar district, accused of abetting a dance teacher,Ramesh Yagnik,to commit suicide.
The case pertains to Dhhasa village in Gadhda taluka of Bhavnagar district. Yagnik consumed poison last September after he was hauled up under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for not giving dance lessons to some Scheduled Caste girls from his village. He was a facing criminal charge in the case.
Before committing suicide,Yagnik left a note accusing eights people, including Rajpara of abetment.
Rajparas lawyer Atit Thakore said that Yagnik made a reference to the criminal case pending against him,in the suicide note. Thakore said one of the parents of these girls had lodged a complaint against him under the provisions of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Being an acquaintance of both the complainant and the accused party in the atrocity case,Rajpara had tried to resolve the issue, said Thakore.
But,seven days after the registration of the atrocity case,Yagnik committed suicide and left behind the note, he said.
Following Yagniks death, his brother Rasik lodged a complaint of abetment of suicide against eight people mentioned in the suicide note. Subsequently, all the eight accused were arrested and the concerned lower courts refused to grant them the bail at the pre and post chargesheet stage.
Rajpara then challenged the lower courts order in the High Court, which granted him bail considering the facts of the case and his old age.
