At first glance, it seemed like a regular accident case. On October 1, Nakhatsinh Arjunsinh Bhati (50), a security guard, was mowed down by a pickup truck in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev locality.
The accused, 30-year-old Gopalsinh Harisinh Bhati, tried to flee the spot but was caught by the local residents who handed him over to the police. He was produced in a court and sent to jail on Thursday.
But during the course of the investigation, the N Division Traffic police noticed something curious: Both the deceased and the accused had an old connection. They both came from the same town in neighbouring Rajasthan.
Further probe led police to another startling fact. Nakhatsinh was accused of murdering Gopalsinh’s father around 22 years ago over a personal enmity. Gopalsinh was only eight years old at the time.
Police are now suspecting that Gopalsinh deliberately hit Nakhatsinh’s bicycle to avenge his father’s death.
Police said during the course of the investigation, they utilised CCTV footage and “human intelligence” to reach the conclusion.
The N Division Traffic Police have now added section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the FIR filed in the original case, and submitted a report to the court. The case has now been transferred to Bodakdev police station.
