Ahmedabad police to use digital sound level meters to reduce noise pollution

In a first in the state, Ahmedabad City Police Tuesday distributed 53 digital sound level meters to cops to “minimise noise pollution” in the city.

“The devices will be used to measure the sound in decibels as directed by the Gujarat High Court in an ongoing case and minimise noise pollution,” said Komal Vyas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Control).

Under the Police Modernisation Scheme, 51 of these audio devices have been allotted to Zone 1-7 spanning over 44 police stations and the other two have been given to Control Room.

A training to use the digital sound meters is being conducted by Kesla, the company behind the devices, from Tuesday. According to police, 250 personnel from staff, Local Crime Branch, Control Room and Special Branch will be trained in the coming days.
