The city sessions court on Monday rejected the bail applications of the seven accused in the mysterious deaths of two boys at the Asaram Ashram-run Gurukul last July.

Uday Sangani,Pankaj Saxena,Yogesh Bhati,Ajay Shah,Kaushik Vani,Vikas Khemka and Minketan Patra — all followers of Asaram Bapu, were charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder (IPC 304). They had filed for anticipatory bail today, which was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge DT Soni.

Special Public Prosecutor Sudhir Bhrambhatt said: “The court termed this case under the exceptional case where discretion should not be given in favour of the accused. The bail was rejected in view of the seriousness of the case.”

The decomposed bodies of cousins Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhishek Vaghela (11) were found from the Sabarmati river on July 5,two days after they went missing from the Ashram. Earlier, the prosecution had filed an affidavit urging the court not to give anticipatory bail to the accused as they might tamper with evidence. Initially a case of accidental death was filed. Later the CID (Crime) lodged an FIR against the seven.
