Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates visited the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar in Narmada district Friday. He interacted with local tribal community members and visited the Arogya Van cafe during the visit.
After his visit to the Statue of Unity — the world’s tallest statue at 182 metres — Gates wrote a remark in the visitors’ book that read, “An incredible engineering feat. Very beautiful. A great tribute to Sardar Patel…”
Gates arrived at the Vadodara airport earlier Friday and proceeded for his maiden maiden visit to Ekta Nagar on an airbus chopper. Gates was greeted by the Vadodara District Collector Bijal Shah and Commissioner of Police of Vadodara Anupam Singh Gahlaut city during his brief changeover at the airport. Thereafter, at Ekta Nagar, he was greeted by officials of the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority and Narmada District Collector.
Narmada Collector Shweta Teotia shared photos of Gates at the Arogya Van cafe at Statue of Unity and posted, “He tasted and appreciated the traditional delicacies prepared by the SHG group women here (at Arogya Van). He enjoyed the Methi thepla, samosa and laddoos prepared by our SHG sisters and noted the empowerment of the womenfolk of Aspirational District Narmada.”
