CBI arrests IAF engineer in disproportianate assets case

The CBI during their raid on the engineer's house found cash of Rs. 8.34 lakhs and jewellery worth Rs. 2.4 lakhs.

The CBI arrested a junior engineer of Indian Air Force from his residence late on Wednesday for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets.

The Air Force Police had found cash and jewellery at the engineer’s residence at Air Force Station in Jamnagar during a routine check. The IAF had reported the matter to CBI.

The CBI during their raid on the engineer’s house found cash of Rs. 8.34 lakhs and jewellery worth Rs. 2.4 lakhs. The engineer was unable to explain the source of cash and the reason for keeping it at home.

The officials added that he was about to go on leave with the seized cash and jewellery, but was arrested before he could go. The CBI interrogated him for several hours since Wednesday night however the engineer has allegedly claimed innocence.

The CBI added that the junior engineer works in the MES department of the Air Force base in Jamnagar. The CBI also spoke with the Air Force officials at Jamnagar base to collect more details on his whereabouts and background, and details of the visitors and others who he often interacted with.

The CBI has registered a case under section 13 (2) 13 (1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and begun a thorough probe.
