In A bid to streamline the LPG cylinder supply system, the Vadodara district administration has decided the centralise the process of giving fresh connections.

If all goes according to plan, from October 1,the residents seeking new connections will be required to submit the necessary documents at the City Civic Centre instead of various LPG agencies.

short article insert The decision was taken after a detailed analysis of the present application processing system and the problems faced by the consumers at various agencies. The logistics for the proposed move have already been worked out and other related aspects are also being taken care of by the District Supply Office.

“We found that despite having sufficient supply, most of the time consumers were facing too many hurdles in getting new connections and even cylinders at different agencies. We wanted to get rid of all the hurdles and handle the task with much more efficiency. We are almost through with the plan and the services would start at Narmada Bhavan where we have the Civic Centre,” District Collector Vinod Rao told The Indian Express.

There are 43 LPG agencies and 5,10,862 consumers in the district, with the city accounting for over 50 per cent of those connections. Besides, there are 23,774 consumers who have piped natural gas connections provided by the municipal corporation.

District Supply Officer D R Patel said,“In addition to the centralised processing system,we will also have a helpline to deal with the problems faced by the consumers. We have already finalised the application forms. The biggest benefit which we would have is the database of the consumers. In all probabilities, the services would be open for public from October 1.”

Under the new system,he said,a resident can walk into the Civic Centre and submit the relevant documents along with the application form. “The application would be processed and the consumer would get a call letter from the supply office to collect cylinders from an agency on a particular date,” Patel added.

He said talks were on with the companies which supply LPG. “We are in touch with the companies to deal with issues related to continuous supply of LPG so that we have a ‘zero grievance’ supply network,” he said.
