A Special Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing some of the riot cases, following an application demanding further probe in the Naroda Patiya case of 2002,where 95 people were killed. The notice was issued by special Judge Jyotsna Yagnik,on an application by NGO Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM),representing some of the post-Godhra riot victims. Further hearing is scheduled on August 20.
In its application,JSM has sought review of the March 4 court order, where it had dismissed its plea demanding directions to SIT to further probe the Naroda Patiya case.
Advocate Amrish Patel, representing JSM,contended that since the court order in March,SIT has not submitted any report or new evidence to suggest that investigations were on in the case. He sought a review of the order, with directions to SIT to put before the court evidence suggesting that investigations were still on.
He contended that SIT had not conducted proper investigation in the Naroda Patiya case.
The court had,in March, rejected JSMs plea after SIT submitted that further investigations in the matter were on.
