Gujarat Vidyapith is set to conduct its own admission entrance exam — GEETA (Gujarat Vidyapith Eligibility and Efficacy Test for Admission) — for the academic session 2024-25. The move comes with the varsity witnessing a lukewarm response to the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
“While a student can appear for any or both the exams — CUET and GEETA — preference will be given to the CUET. There is not much awareness about CUET as a result of which we don’t get enough students. Also, the admission process gets delayed due to the CUET due to which most students take admission in other institutes,” Gujarat Vidyapith Vice-Chancellor Harshad Patel told The Indian Express.
The varsity will conduct its test for 1,882 seats of 14 bachelor courses (pursued after Class 12), three bachelor courses (pursued after graduation) -BEd, BEd Hindi and BPEd; 19 postgraduate and five postgraduate diploma courses.
The GEETA entrance exam will be held on May 11 at 30 locations in the state. The admission procedure will be conducted from June 24 to June 26. The new academic session will start from July 1.
The nearly century-old university, founded by Mahatma Gandhi, was earlier too conducting its entrance exam, individually by departments, before the CUET was introduced for admissions two years ago.
For GEETA, candidates have to apply online till April 30. Admission Committee Coordinator Professor Ajay Parikh said the admission procedure will be conducted based on the entrance examination in all the courses of Gujarat Vidyapith.
The entrance exam will have 60 questions for which 90 minutes will be allotted. The OMR-based test will include topics like general knowledge, language, reasoning, and a brief biography of Mahatma Gandhi.
The result of the test will be declared on May 16. The counselling and admission process will be held from June 24 to June 26 as per the merit list based on CUET and GEETA scores.
