The Surat District Education Officer (DEO) on Thursday pulled up a school at Olpad taluka for refusing to grant hall ticket to a student appearing for Class X Gujarat Board examinations over non-payment of fees.

The student Pruthvi Savaliya, a resident of Velanja village, is a student of J V International School. According to officials in the DEO office, when Pruthvi visited the school with her mother on Thursday to get the hall ticket for the Board exams, beginning March 11, the school authorities refused to handover the same. They demanded that second term fees be paid before Pruthvi is given the hall ticket.

Officials said Pruthvi informed her father Manish, a property broker who was at his native place in Amreli. Following this, Manish approached the school authorities on phone, assuring that the fees will be paid once he returns to Surat. The school authorities, however, refused to accept this.
