Disproportionate assets case: Former ESIC inspector gets 3 years of RI

A former inspector of  Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ahmedabad was sent to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Court No 1, in Ahmedabad Thursday also slapped a fine of Rs 20 lakh on accused Anil Kumar Singh.

A case against Singh was registered by the CBI on December 31, 2007 based on the allegations that the accused had — during the period between August 1, 2001 and November 30, 2007 — amassed assets disproportionate to his known source of income to the tune of Rs 19,44,018 which was 314% in excess to his known source of income. During the investigation, it was, however, revealed that the accused had allegedly amassed assets wealth to the tune of Rs 22,15,609 disproportionate to their known source of income, during the checked period between January 1, 2000 and July 1, 2006, which was 84.6% in excess to their known source of income.

The CBI filed the charge sheet on December 9, 2009. The court, after trial, found accused Anil Kumar Singh guilty and awarded him three years of RI.
