Elections of gram panchayats within Kadi and Visavadar talukas postponed: SEC

“The date for gram panchayats of these talukas will be declared afresh now onwards,” the statement stated.

The Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) has postponed the elections of all gram panchayats falling under Kadi and Jotana talukas of Mehsana district; Visavadar, Bhesan, Junagadh (rural) talukas of Junagadh district and Bagasara taluka of Amreli district in view of the by-elections of Kadi and Visavadar assembly constituencies on June 19.

The development was shared by the SEC in an official statement released late Thursday.

On Wednesday, the SEC had announced elections of 8,326 gram panchayats in Gujarat on June 22.

The SEC statement stated that as per a letter from the office of Chief Electoral Officer, the entire concerned election staff of the two assembly constituencies will be engaged in the by-elections. In view of this, the statement added, the elections of all those gram panchayats falling under Kadi and Visavadar assembly constituencies which were scheduled to go to polls on June 22 have been postponed as of now.

“The date for gram panchayats of these talukas will be declared afresh now onwards,” the statement stated.
