Firing during Dhuleti: Madhu Srivastava acquitted

Vadodara District Court on Wednesday acquitted controversial Waghodia MLA Madhu Srivastava of all charges levelled under the Bombay Arms Act for allegedly firing three rounds in the air on March 23,2008.

Vadodara District Court on Wednesday acquitted controversial Waghodia MLA Madhu Srivastava of all charges levelled under the Bombay Arms Act for allegedly firing three rounds in the air on March 23,2008. Judge Z A Trivedi acquitted him for want of evidence.

The incident had occurred during the Dhuleti celebrations. A complaint in this regard was filed with the Makarpura police station by the then police inspector R D Lashkari.

However,according to Srivastavas counsel,Javed Patel,there were no eyewitnesses to the incident who were willing to testify before the court or any evidence to prove that he had fired in the air.

Interestingly,after the incident,Srivastava was arrested and released on bail with a bond of Rs 10,000 inside the Baroda Diary compound during the holi celebrations,when he was the chairman of the organisation.

According to sources,several photographs and videos of the former chairman of the Baroda Dairy were recorded. Srivastava reportedly told the court that it was a conspiracy against him and the BJP,as he had used fake bullets that did not harm anyone.

Srivastava,a three-time Waghodia MLA,has courted controversies in the past,too. The MLA had first hit the headlines when a national magazine accused him of bribing 2002 riot victim and eyewitness,Zaheera Shaikh,based on which the Supreme Court had issued summons to him.

Recently,in April this year,he had reportedly threatened to burn down VITCOS buses plying between Waghodia,Ajwa Road and Vadodara after some autorickshaw drivers contended that the city buses were causing them losses.
