The swine flu death toll in Gujarat rose to seven with the death of a 50-year-old businessman in Rajkot on Monday. This is the first H1N1 death in Saurashtra.
The deceased was identified as Rajesh Ungahad, who owned a community hall on the Kotharia Road. It,however, could not be established as to how he contracted the deadly virus. According to his family members,Ungadh had neither visited any swine flu affected area nor did he come in contact with any foreigner or Non-Resident Indian. He had been to many Janmasthmi fairs held in Saurashtra, two days before he reported the preliminary symptoms of swine flu.
He was admitted to Workhardt Hospital on August 20 and tested positive for H1N1 on August 22,said the authorities at the private hospital, adding that Ungahd was a diabetic and hardly responded to the treatment. He was first taken ill on August 17. Before getting admitted to the Workhardt Hospital,he had taken treatment at two private clinics.
At least 15 people, including family members, relatives and friends of Unghad who accompanied him at various places will now have to undergo check up.
Meanwhile, two more suspected cases have been reported in Rajkot, including that of a boy whose sister is admitted to the same hospital. Besides,a woman has also been admitted with swine flu-like symptoms.
