Following state Congress chief, leader of Opposition in the state Assembly,Shaktisinh Gohil, too resigned from his post owning moral responsibility for his partys defeat. Congress leaders, however, scrambled to clarify that their allegations about EVMs being tampered were not against the Election Commission of India, but against the state government which they said had used a different software and against the state EC (SEC),which was using a different kind of EVMs in the state. Gohil, while sending his resignation letter through speed post to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, said,Congress is not opposed to EVMs,but we are opposed to EVMs that are used by the Gujarat government. There is complete transparency in those used by EC. The Gujarat government has avoided using EVMs provided by the EC. Later, state Congress chief Siddharth Patel too raised doubts about the EVMs used in Gujarat, saying the the State Election Commission is different from the EC and has members appointed by the state government. Patel too said the EVMs used by SEC and EC are of different makes, manufactured by different companies. In a press release later,Patel too clarified that the Congress is not opposed to the use of EVM technology but only to its tampering.
