He added that the hospital will be allowed to resume after the deficiencies are addressed.
The Health Minister gave the details while speaking on the matter raised by four legislators – Congress’s Kirit Patel, Geniben Thakor, and Dinesh Thakor; and BJP’s Alpesh Thakor – in the House. The matter is related to cataract surgeries conducted on 13 patients at Maneklal Nathalal Vakharia Sarvoday Eye Hospital in Radhanpur on February 2. Seven patients complained of loss of vision or blurred vision following the operation.

A written reply from the Health Minister stated that the Health Department rushed a team to the private hospital after learning about the incident. The team submitted its report to the Health Department. Of the 12 patients at the Patan hospital, six patients did not have any infection. Four of the six had consented to be treated at M & J Institute of Opthalmology in Ahmedabad following which they were shifted in an ambulance.
In all, as on February 9, five patients were under treatment with two patients having serious infection and three having partial infection.
The statement also underlined that as a measure of precaution, inquiries are being made on 34 patients who underwent surgeries at the private hospital between January 25 and February 1.
Rushikesh Patel said the health department has got the operation theater of the Radhanpur eye hospital closed and it will be allowed to resume operations after the deficiencies are addressed.
