Gujarat on high alert after Mumbai blasts

The Gujarat Police sounded a high alert in the state in the wake of the serial blasts in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.

The Gujarat Police sounded a high alert in the state in the wake of the serial blasts in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. “The state is on a high alert. Police officers have been given specific tasks as precautionary measures. All the (security) forces have been alerted and extensive checking drives are on across the state,” said ADGP (Law & Order) Shivanand Jha.

The state ATS has also launched checking drives in various cities. “The special units of ATS have begun checking (suspicious objects and people) at various places. The Special Operations Groups are also on alert,” said ATS chief Ashish Bhatia.

Sources said that the Coast Guard and the Border Security Force have also been alerted for vigil in coastal and border areas.

Coastal district police chiefs have been directed to conduct detailed checking in coastal villages,they said.

In Ahmedabad,city Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha said,“All senior officers have been deployed for security checks. Special forces like QRTs and Bomb Disposal Squad are on a stand by.”

Besides major road junctions,checking in on at hotels,guest houses,lodges,shopping malls,multiplexes and other public places.
