A history-sheeter wanted for various crimes, including in an attempt to murder of a jail sepoy, was arrested from Danilimda of Ahmedabad Wednesday during a drive to apprehend fugitives in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Phurkan Khan Nazir Khan Pathan, 25, was wanted for robbery and attempting to kill a jail sepoy outside the Ahmedabad Central Jail while being on interim bail in another murder case.
Phurkan, along with his brothers Sohil Khan, Tabrej Khan, Maqbul Khan and Shanu Khan, had been in custody for offences under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 120(b) (conspiracy), besides sections of the Gujarat Police Act.
On September 16, 2023, Phurkan obtained a 15-day interim bail alleging “harassment” from a jail sepoy, while his brothers continued to languish in judicial custody in the same prison in a Vatva murder case.
However, he absconded during the bail period. According to a statement from the Ahmedabad police, Phurkan, along with his brother Rais Khan Nazir Khan Pathan and friends Imran Khan alias Bittu Akram Khan Pathan and Aman alias Raja Aslam Khan Pathan, planned and executed an attack on the jail constable Ashok bhai Mavaji Chaudhary on October 23, 2023.
According to an FIR lodged at Ranip police station, the group attacked the constable with a knife. The cop suffered injuries to his neck and index finger of his left hand. They also looted the constable’s mobile phone and cash amounting to Rs 3,000 before fleeing from the scene.
