Obscene video: B J College hostel walls to go high
Ahmedabad: Two days after a first-year postgraduate student at the B J Medical College was suspended for allegedly making an obscene video of a second-year girl student while she was in bathroom in the hostel,the college authorities have passed an order to increase the height of the partition walls to check such incidents in the future. The incident came to light on Sunday afternoon when the victim,a student of second-year paediatrics,spotted the accused filming her. She lodged a complaint with the college authorities. While a three-member committee formed by the college is investigating into the matter,four similar incidents have been reported earlier. The college PG Director,AK Sheikh,said,“We have ordered to extend the partition walls between the hostels to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.”

Gujarati journalist passes away
Ahmedabad: Veteran Gujarati journalist and columnist,Amin Qureshi,passed away at his residence in Ahmedabad on Friday. Qureshi (80) was suffering from prolonged old-age related illness and is survived by his two sons.

Probe sought into dairy recruitment
Ahmedabad: The president of a milk producers’ union affiliated with Madhur Dairy has demanded an inquiry into the recruitment of 22 persons in the dairy. The president of the Chandrela milk producers union has alleged it had appointed 22 people illegally.

State Congress launches CA cell
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has launched its Chartered Accountant (CA) Cell and appointed Kailash Gadhvi,a practicing CA,as its first chief. The cell’s office was inaugurated on the second floor of the state party headquarters here early this week. Speaking on the occasion,Minister of State for Power Bharatsinh Solanki stressed on the role of professionals in nation building and said the part of Chartered Accountants in politics had become important with the country moving towards globalisation.

Govt assures to appoint information commissioner within two months
AHMEDABAD: The state government has given an assurance before the Gujarat High Court that one of the two posts of Information Commissioner will be filled within two months. The assurance came during the hearing of a PIL on Thursday. It is seen as a welcome move for the Right to Information (RTI) activists and appellants who are waiting for the disposal of their applications due to want of staff at the State Information Commission. RTI activist Amit Jethva had filed the PIL in which he mentioned the vacant posts in the Information Commission and its effect on the disposal of RTI applications.
