In Panchmahals village, 38 Aadhaar cards ‘dumped by postman’ found

Apparently, the postman who was tasked with delivering the UIDAI cards to Nayak and others in villages around Halol instead decided to dump the key documents.

The Panchmahals collector and Superintendent of Post Offices in Godhra on Tuesday initiated inquiry into the matter.

Collector P Bharthi said that she had talked to the postmaster general of Vadodara region about complaints from several villagers that their Aadhaar cards were not delivered to them months after being issued. Aadhaar cards are delivered by the India Post.

Bharthi said the district administration has also offered help to the postmaster general regarding delivery of the cards using local administration mechanism in case the postmen found it hard to reach the address given in the cards. Several cards are being lost while being delivered, she said.

Superintendent of Post Offices, Godhra, AB Jadhav said that an inquiry has been started by the postal department and the postman responsible for the dump will be suspended for dereliction of duty.

“The inspector of Halol post office has visited the site where the cards were dumped and an inquiry is on in the matter. Action will be taken against the postman who would have thrown away the cards. The postman is being identified,” Jadhav said.

The Centre has recently decided to link a person’s Aadhaar cards to several government schemes such as to the bank accounts being opened under the PM’s Jan Dhan Yojana.
