JD(U) invokes Ishrat’s Bihar link to poke BJP

What about Muslim youths from the state with IM links, retorts BJP

A day after the CBI said in its chargesheet that Ishrat Jahan encounter was fake, the JD(U) came up with the Bihar connection of the girl to poke the BJP. It asked the BJP if it was with the “daughter of Bihar” or the Gujarat government. BJP’s reply was prompt. It asked the JD(U) why the party did not invoke the Bihar connection when Muslim youths from Madhubani and Darbhanga were being arrested for their IM links or when a Bihar boy was killed in a police encounter in Mumbai a few years ago.

JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Ali Anwar said Ishrat’s grandmother Wali Mohammed was a resident of Khagaul near Patna and had moved to Mumbai in the 70s. He said though there was no paternal house at Khagaul now,Ishrat’s mother Shamima Kausar had confirmed that she lived in a rented house Shahganj in Patna till 1993 and later moved to Thane,Mumbai. Ishrat, second of her seven children, was born in Patna in 1985 and did her primary education here.

“It was only during an informal conversation with a common acquaintance that I had come to know Ishrat’s Bihar link. Though we had always been raising the fake encounter case, her Bihar background gives us more reasons to share the concerns of her family for a fair probe,” Anwar said. He said with an aggressive BJP attacking the CBI probe, the party “should tell if it was on side of a daughter of Bihar or the Gujarat government”.

Shamima hails from Jamalpur and her brother Mujib-ur-Rahman is a lab technician in the National Institute of Technology,Patna. “Ishrat’s case has brought so much pain and tribulations to her relatives that her uncle has gone on leave to avoid the media,” Anwar said.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said,“Why all of a sudden JD(U) has been talking of Ishrat being a daughter of Bihar? Why did not Nitish Kumar talk of Bihar connection when Muslim youths from Madhubani and Darbhanga were arrested with IM links. Why didn’t JD(U) talk of Patna boy Rahul Raj who was killed in police encounter in Mumbai a few years ago?”

He said a state government that could not help former minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey when he was trapped in Kedarnath has no moral authority to talk of Bihar connection. Prasad said the BJP wanted a debate on fake encounters.
