Man booked for rape of 17-year-old girl in Jamnagar

The city police have booked one Narendra Prajapati for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl several times between May 25 and June 21.

The city police have booked one Narendra Prajapati for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl several times between May 25 and June 21.

According to details of the case,Prajapati had taken the girl to Jamnagar on May 25 on the pretext of marrying her. The girl was kept in a house there for a few days. He then took her to Piplag and kept her in a rented apartment,where he raped her repeatedly for several days. On Sunday,he abandoned her at a deserted place near Piplag village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The girl returned home the same night and later registered a complaint with the police. Prajapati was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code for rape. The girl was sent to the Civil Hospital for medical test,the police said,adding that the report is awaited. No arrests have been made so far and investigations are underway. According to the police,the girl belongs to an economically weak family of Odhav and the accused took advantage of this.

Ten-year-old drowns in Chandola Lake
Ten-year-old Farori Mirza reportedly drowned in Chandola Lake on Sunday afternoon. The police stated that the boy was staying in the shanties near Kashiram Ice Factory and had come to take a dip in the lake. The body was fished out and sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem. The police have registered a case of accidental death and taken up further investigations.

Berger Paints unit near Ahmedabad catches fire
Fire broke out in a private paints factory on Sarkhej-Bavla highway on the outskirts of the city on Monday,fire brigade officials said. A fire brigade team with around 18 fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the fire at the Berger Paints unit here,they said. It is not yet known if there are any casualties in the fire,the officials said.

Body of infant found in canal
The body of a premature baby was fished out from a canal near Arihantnagar Society late Sunday night.

Inspector B M Vasava of Naroda police said: “The baby was premature,and we suspect it was thrown into the canal on Sunday only. The canal was dry at that time,so the body was easily found. However,no injury marks were found on the body. We have investigated in the neighbouring hospitals but nothing has come to the light yet. ”

The police have registered a case of concealment of birth by secret disposal of body under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code. The body was sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem,said the police,adding that further probe is on.
