Authorities at M S University and suspended registrar A V Gupta have finally reached a settlement in accordance with the suggestions by Gujarat University Service Tribunal (GUST)
The varsity decided to withdraw all corruption charges against Gupta as the latter agreed to vacate his post late on Friday.
As per the agreement between the two parties,Gupta has been asked not to file any further litigation against the university,vice-chancellor or any other university official. He should also not insist on continuing as registrar after November 23 and vacate his official bungalow at the earliest. In return, the university has agreed to withdraw all the six charges against him. MSU V-C Prof Ramesh Goyal said: This has been done in the interest of the university,as there is no point lingering over the issue unnecessary. We will take legal opinion before taking any further action. Gupta said he will leave the university bungalow in the next 15 days after the varsity clears his dues. The university should focus more to achieve academic excellence instead of filthy administrative issues, he added.
Prof Goyal had suspended Gupta on October 15 on the basis of an RTI reply, which stated that the latter,an ex-Army personnel, had been drawing excess salary from the university by concealing details of the increment in his pension amount.
