No let-up in security for now

No trouble was reported from any part of the state following the sentencing of convicts in the Godhra train burning case on Tuesday but top state police officers said the alert would continue till March 4.

No trouble was reported from any part of the state following the sentencing of convicts in the Godhra train burning case on Tuesday but top state police officers said the alert would continue till March 4.

Additional DGP (law and order) Sudhir Sinha said,“The policemen across the state are on alert and all leaves have been cancelled”. He said SRPF forces deployed in various cities on February 22 would stay put till March 4.

The state police brass have deployed four SRPF companies in Godhra and one each in the districts of

class="keywordtourl" href="https://indian-express-develop.go-vip.net/section/cities/surat/" class="" rel="nofollow, noopener" target="_blank">Surat,Bharuch,Vadodara,Dahod,Anand,Kheda,Ahmedabad,Sabarkantha,Banaskantha and Bhavnagar.

Sinha said senior officers have been asked to carry out special patrolling between 8-11pm during which workers return home after work. He said it is usually during this period that small arguments,often in an inebriated state,trigger clashes.
