The cop is already in the net for badly beating up an accused in custody
Sabarmati Police Inspector M K Parmar, who is already facing criminal charges for badly beating an accused in custody after he refused to sign a memo that contained wrong information, now faces another complaint of criminal intimidation. The complainant is the same person who had lodged the complaint of custodial torture against him earlier.
This time,Parmar is accused of intimidating the accused to withdraw the criminal charges he (the accused) has levelled against him (Parmar). Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court has issued summons to Parmar in this regard to remain present in court on May 11.
The complainant, who has been identified as Shankar Rabari, was arrested by the Sabarmati police on April 13 for assaulting policemen. Rabari had alleged in a complaint before the Metropolitan Court that he was forced by the Sabarmati police officials including Parmar to sign a memo with false information. But when he refused to sign the same they beat him up and cooked up a false criminal case against him.
The next day,Rabari was produced before the Metropolitan Court where,to everybodys surprise,he removed his clothes and showed the injuries he had sustained due to custodial torture. Following the incident and the Civil Hospital doctors report regarding injuries sustined by Rabari, the court asked the concerned court to register a case against the Sabarmati police for custodial torture.
Rabaris counsel,Ishwar Desai said: After he was granted bail on April 15,he was released from the Sabarmati jail. Parmar then contacted him and asked him to withdraw the complaint of custodial torture.
He added: We have now lodged a complaint of criminal intimidation against Parmar before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate,N A Ijner. The court has issued summon to Parmar to remain present in court on May 11 for the same.
When contacted,Parmar denied the allegations and said: Why should I threaten anyone? I am not aware of any such complaint. And even if such a complaint has been lodged,I will fight it in court.
