On an outing with friends, 21-year-old engineering student drowns in Mahisagar river

A senior official of the Vadodara district police said, “The family received a call late Wednesday evening that their son had drowned in the Mahisagar river… They rushed to the spot where the police and rescue teams were present but since it had already turned dark, the search operation was carried out on Thursday and his body was retrieved.”

Police officials added that a case of accidental death has been lodged at Savli police station and a probe initiated in the matter even as the post mortem report is awaited to ascertain the cause of death. “The family is in a state of shock. We will be able to record their statements to understand the sequence of events as well as the reason why the deceased had not informed his parents about the (alleged) outing with his friends to the riverside…” the senior official said.

Lacchanpur in Savli is a popular picnic spot along the Mahisagar river, prone to drowning and has witnessed several cases of accidents over the years.
