One more mysterious blast in the city this month has put Surat Police on toes. On Saturday afternoon,a blast took place in a toilet of the Athwa Zone office of Surat Municipal Corporation at Athwalines. Police rushed to the spot and found that it was caused by a firecracker bomb. The police also disposed another firecracker bomb at the spot.
The blast in the toilet shocked the employees of the Athwa Zone office of Surat Municipal Corporation at Adarshnagar in the Athwalines area. Umra Police along with a dog squad and a bomb disposal squad also rushed to the spot and checked the entire area. Later, all the employees in the office were allowed to carry on with their work.
Sources said this was the third such incident to have occurred this month. First,a firecracker bomb blast was reported from BRCM College at Piplod in Surat. The second blast was reported from the toilet of the Surat district court on Thursday.
Surat Crime Branch Inspector G M Patel said,Some notorious elements are doing this to harm the peaceful atmosphere in Surat. We have noticed that in all the incidents the bombs are planted in toilets and all the targets were public places. Significantly, all the three buildings are not far from one another.
He further said,We have now deployed police staff in plain clothes at various public places. We have also alerted security guards posted at the gates of public premises to keep watch on suspected people entering the toilets.
