International banking firms will visit on the first day

The first ‘cohort’ of companies that will be attending the first day of IIM-A’s placement process on Saturday will be of international banking firms, sources in the institute said. About 30 students short-listed in the pre-placement interviews conducted last week will appear for the final interviews today.

Professor Saral Mukherjee, the faculty in-charge of placements, confirmed that one of the groups would indeed be made up of such firms, but said he did not know which companies would be included or what other cohorts would visit the campus on the first days of placements.

“The students decide which company cohorts come,so I really do not have the details,” he said.

Student placement committee members were also tight-lipped about the firms which have confirmed.

However, sources said the companies will almost certainly look for students with an IIT background.

In past years, international banking firms have been known to offer salaries in tens of lakhs.

The cohort system has been introduced in IIM-A from this year, with ‘cohort’ implying groups of companies which are looking to recruit similar kinds of students and offering similar job profiles.

Because of this, this year’s placements will likely stretch for as long as two months, with placements likely to happen mostly on weekends instead of finishing off in a week as in the past years.
