The deep depression over the Arabian Sea on Tuesday caused rain in south Gujarat and Saurashtra regions, with the India Meteorological Department predicting heavy to very heavy showers in several parts of the state in the next two days.
While Veraval recorded 36.8 mm rain, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Valsad also witnessed considerable downpour. Ahmed-abad too received a few spells of rain, measuring up to 0.2 mm, in the evening. Porbandar and Dwarka in Saurashtra, however, were left dry.
The Ahmedabad centre of the IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain at some places, with isolated extreme rainfall in parts of south Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu on Wednesday.

“The depression over Arabian Sea has moved slightly eastnorthwards and is crossing the south Gujarat coast, very close to Diu. The system is likely to move northeastwards and weaken gradually in the next 24 hours,” stated the weather forecast.
“Sea will be very rough… Fishermen are advised not to venture into open sea during the same period,” a warning on the Met department’s website said.
