Rajkot clashes: Police arrest seven,seize sharp weapons

Seven people,including three minors,have been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s armed clash at Popatpara in which two persons were killed. The Pradhyumannagar police have also recovered sharp weapons from those arrested.

Two persons identified as Ramji Makwana and Bashir Daruwala were killed in a clash between the Koli and Meman families from Popatpara over a petty issue.

The police on Thursday arrested seven people in connection with Makwana’s murder. The arrested include Bashir’s three brothers — Anwar,Aslam and Sikander. Besides,police have also arrested four others identified as Sohail (16),Siraj (17),Ismail (18) and Imran (15).

The police said they have recovered four swords,two sticks and two pipes from Bashir’s house in Popatpara.

The arrested had allegedly attacked Makwana and his other relatives in the Rajkot Civil Hospital premises. Atul Makwana,the deceased’s nephew,had registered a complaint of murder,attempt to murder and rioting against the arrested persons.

Elsewhere,the police said it is on the trail of the members of the Makwana family who allegedly killed Bashir during the clash. In this regard,Sohail has registered a similar complaint of murder,attempt to murder and rioting against the Makwanas.
