Residents and shop-owners off Judge’s Bungalow crossroads in Ahmedabad are facing a lot of problems and will continue to do so till Sunday,as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has cordoned off a stretch to build a pandal that will host a function for Chief Minsiter Narendra Modi and state Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel.

The pandal is being erected for the inauguration of the New West Zone Office in Bodakdev on Sunday.

Residents complained that the traffic movement has been blocked and no one is allowed to park their cars outside their houses. They added their children have to walk a long distance to board the buses as entry of all vehicles have been restricted.

Meenakshi Jaimini,a school teacher who lives in the Rudra Square Society, said: “Our apartments are situated next to the road. The roadblock is a major problem as children have to walk down the whole stretch.”

She added: “Neither the government officials nor civic staff informed us about the event. One fine morning,we see iron barricades installed on the road. At least, they should tell us beforehand. We cannot even bring out our cars as parking it again is a big hassle.”

Another resident Kalpana Shah said,“The government can do whatever it wants to. We cannot stop them.”

But civic authorities said they are not aware that the entire stretch was blocked for the function scheduled on Sunday.

Assistant Engineer of New West Zone Vipul Patel said,“I was not aware that the entire road was blocked. I do not know about the arrangements, since the event is being managed by AMC Engineer B K Rathod.”

Patel said the inauguration will include a series of events, like inauguration of New West Zone office, renovation of AMC building at Danapeeth, new AMC building in Bagefirdosh as well as restoration of a few AMC structures at Raikhad.

Despite several attempts,Rathod could not be contacted for comments.

Meanwhile, traffic policemen on the nearby chowki said secretaries of most of the residential societies have given written complaints. But they said they cannot do much except try and manage the traffic on the main road, where parked vehicles have started piling up. “We are like bulls without horns,” a traffic official on duty said.
