Seven Cong MLAs suspended for unruly behaviour in House

Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt on Thursday suspended seven Congress MLAs for creating uproar in the House after being denied permission to debate on the hooch tragedy during the Question Hour.

The suspended MLAs include Lalsinh Vadodaria,Chandrika Baria,Amit Chavda,Shailesh Parmar,Kunwarji Halpati,C K Raulji and Ashwin Kotwal.

Congress members,who also indulged in thumping tables for about half-an-hour,had thrown papers at Bhatt,despite him asking them to maintain decorum in the House.

They were finally escorted out of the House by the martials. Several MLAs,who resisted the martials,had to be bodily lifted and taken out of the House. During this entire exercise,a few mikes on tables of Congress members were also damaged and the clothes of Shaher Kotda Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar were torn off.

This was the second day in a row when Congress members created uproarious scene in the Assembly after being denied permission by the Speaker to debate the hooch tragedy.

Vadodaria,Baria and Chavda were also charged with damaging six mikes in the House. The Speaker also slapped them with a fine of Rs 48,000 at a rate of

Rs 8,000 per mike unit,plus Rs 3,600 as repair charges

According to a press release,the proposal for the suspension of the Congress members was moved by the chief whip of the House,

R C Phadadu,which was seconded by ninister Nitin Patel before being passed by the House. Justifying the action,the Speaker said he was empowered to take action against them under Rule 51 of the state Assembly.

He said the action of the Congress members was in flagrant violation of the rules and traditions,and amounted to an insult to the House.

Referring to Part-VIII of a resolution adopted on November 25,2001,the Speaker said that the resolution empowered him to issue warnings,remove members from the House,suspend members temporarily or hand out any other suitable punishment to the members creating unruly scenes in the well of the House.

The Speaker also expunged the words used in the slogans and restrained the print and electronic media from publishing and telecasting them.
