(Representational Image)In a bid to meet the increasing power consumption and save costs, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to come up with three solar power projects of 10 megawatts (MW) each this year. During his Gujarat visit, PM Narendra Modi will Thursday virtually inaugurate the Patan project and lay the foundation stone of another project in Banaskantha.
Additional city engineer of SMC Ashish Naik said, “ With this move, we will increase solar energy generation and reach a mark of 34 per cent… but we have set a target to reach 40 per cent.”

Meanwhile, the Surat civic body has installed solar panels on the rooftop of different properties that it owns in 30 different locations, including health centres. The project – worth Rs. 13.15 crores – aims to generate 2.62 GW of power per year. PM Modi will also inaugurate this project on Thursday.
