Soon,an academy for budding cricketers

The Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad (CBCA),an affiliate of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA),is launching an academy for budding players in the city to provide net practice and coaching facilities free of cost.

Located at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura,the academy will also provide them balls,shoes and tracksuits without charging anything,said CBCA president Bharat Zaveri. “After taking reins of the GCA,its president Narendra Modi and vice-presidents Amit Shah and Parimal Nathwani have been guiding us to improve quality of cricket in the state,” he added.

Zaveri said the academy would have its own complex in the stadium over 2,000 sq feet area given on a 30-year lease by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. It will have three turf wickets and one AstroTurf wicket,besides change rooms.

Players from 179 clubs and associations affiliated to CBCA in Ahmedabad district will be allowed to join the academy in the batches of 30,he said.

Besides regular training camps,the academy will also hold special annual camps for bowlers spinners,according to Anil Patel,former coach and secretary of CBCA. The coaches who will train players will be all qualified and recognised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India,he added.

The academy is expected to be ready in a month’s time.
