Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Fakirbhai Vaghela said on Sunday that the government is determined to the cause of uplift of the Dalit community to bring them on par with others.
At a function in Gandhinagar,he appealed to the community to derive maximum benefit of the various welfare schemes.
He also released a directory of the 250 members of the Vankar community living in Gandhinagar,on the occasion. Gujarat Rajya Nyay Samiti president Mohanbhai Parmar,former MP Ratilal Verma and Gandhinagar Vankar Samaj president P J Parmar also spoke on the occasion.
Elsewhere,the Gandhinagar Vankar Samaj demanded 5,000 sq metre land in the state capital at the function. At another function,the minister asked members of Dotor Pargana Garo Brahman Samaj to come out of the feelings of inferiority.
A society that cannot honour the decent persons and is unable to punish the undesirable cannot achieve any progress, he said. Vaghela lauded the self-reliant manner of the community in financing the event without seeking any outside help.
He also listed the achievements of the government in providing training to candidates at the Shri Tejanand Swami Karmakand training classes. He said that from 2001 to 2002,as many as 723 candidates had received training from these classes to become self-reliant,adding that no society can progress without education. He further said the Swami Tejanand Maharaj temple in Zizuwada is being restored at a cost of Rs 67 lakh.
